Sometime last year I found a link to several birthday freebie signups, and I haven't even thought twice about it until this week. My birthday is around the corner and all of the sudden I have free goodies in my inbox!!

New Stuff I'm trying - Part THREE! - Geez!
Wow, I've really ran across the motherload of fun stuff to try. Sometimes really late at night I sit and google, and find some of the neatest tools to use... they're out there, and I really think some of them are quite dandy.
Recently, I had the need to create a chart/calender/format for a friend's family... a highschool friend of mine has been diagnosed with cancer and she's undergoing heavy chemo and then will have surgery in October. Her family is under a tremendous strain, and her parents are taking care of the kids during this difficult time. So, several friends that I went to school with mentioned that they'd like to help somehow, so I ran across doodle.com and set up a 'food lovin meal plan' I checked off Fri-Sun for several weeks, and set up the chart to allow 1 person per day to choose, and they can sign their names, and add beside their names the food they intend to deliver to the family! Posted that on my Facebook profile and allowed friends of friends to access it, and whamo - there's some serious lovin for that family!!
Doodle.com is a handy dandy site -and it's free!! There's also a facebook application of doodle.com HERE. Check it out sometime!

new stuff I'm trying - part two
I posted HERE earlier this week and mentioned some really neat tools I've been given suggestions to try, or just ran across recently in random magazines. I took a little more time last night and looked into a few more I had jotted down or bookmarked online, there really is alot out there!!
- I'm comparing springpadit.com and cozi.com - they're similar, and I'm wondering if I can't manage better by using just one of them???? springpadit.com has some really handy tools that are drag and drop and super easy to use, there's even a calorie counter on there. Both sites are free, and I'm going to play around with them both to see which one works better for our needs.
- I've noticed more and more lately I'm getting spam mail... just got a tip on twitter about a resource called bugmenot.com which is a place you can go to enter the web address of the site that is 'forcing' you to join (for free access to their site), for example the major newspaper where I live has this set up. When you register for these online, you start getting junk mail from them. Instead of giving out your own personal info, you can check bugmenot.com to get a quick log in without all of the hassle!
- One last fun application/site that I read about in a magazine last week - this one was available for my Blackberry, so it sparked my interest. It's also available for iPhone and on regular webaccess. Pageonce.com is a site that allows you to integrate your bills their due dates, cell phone minute tracker, netflix queue, ebay bids, feeds from Facebook and other social networking outlets... I'm working on getting it all set up.
I'm excited about the new gadgets, I'm so yesterday on the techie stuff!! Truth is, my phone and my computer are used WAY more then traditional calenders, or handwritten organizing. So, to say the least, I'm behind in the times! Some of these tools may not benefit my family at all, but they're still pretty cool ideas!

I'm trying some new stuff....
I recently read an article that gave me some insight on how to better streamline some areas, so I went digging and MAN there's so much out there!! I googled my way to organizational bliss.... now if I could just devote some time to putting it to good use! Sometimes I run across things and I say "man I want to try that" but I never do, I'm hoping to try more of what I came across recently that would work good for our family, schedules, budget, etc. I'm behind on the times and have ran across some really interesting resources and tools. Here's some info on the 3 that I've enjoyed checking out so far:
- Recently I received a PowerShelf to review, it's a place for our cellphones. It's a silly quirk, but the cords everywhere on my bar annoy me. With a toddler in the house, I can't even tell you the countless times he's grabbed the cord and yanked the phone off of the bar because a tiny bit of cord was within reach. I'll give a full review in the next week on the PowerShelf I received, and host a giveaway for a cellphone PowerShelf. I can tell you in short - it's one handy gadget!
- Some of my bloggy friends have been posting about Cozi.com recently... so I went to see what all the hoopla was about and whoa! That's one multi-purpose, organizational tool. I'm lovin it! There's grocery list making, family calendar/schedule with color coding, family journal.... lots and lots - and it even sync's with Outlook.
- One final resource I'm checking into and trying to take advantage of is knowyourstuff.org ... it's a place to inventory your home for FREE! This looks like a great way to keep track of things in your home for accidental fires, or even home owners insurance purposes in the case you were to ever be robbed.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - bee stings and heartstrings
Visit Keely at The UnMom for other people's Random Tuesday thoughts, theirs are more entertaining anyway!!
- We have a group of kids that come over almost nightly, about 4-6 kids most of the time, and last night they were in our back yard playing in our small inflatable pool (not huge at all) and one of them was stung by a bee. YIKES I was scared for her!! She handled it well, and after a cold pack, some benadryl and some lovin by her big sister - she was back over here in 1 hour!! Little J decided to role play the incident over and over, he had it down to the moment the bee stung her. Kids absorb SO much we show them.
- Last night my best friend was taken to the hospital, for some fairly serious symptoms. I, along with her husband, am concerned this may be a neurological concern. For all of you that pray - please toss up a few prayers for my BFF. She's the best friend I've written about before who's husband has been diagnosed as a carrier for Huntington's Disease. The last txt msg I received was that she'll be transferred to another hospital in the morning. I'm being patient and waiting to hear more. It's hard that she's in CA and I'm in NC. I want to jump on a plane to see her, and may end up doing that if things aren't good.
- My kids are my sanity these days. I'm thankful that they remind me of innocence and simplicity, and a life less complicated. I think that we lose too much of that as we grow older, and life happens.
- On a lighter note, since the hubs has been laid off we've been doing alot more together as a family. He's decided that every slow or crazy driver on the planet somehow manages to find their way in front of my car at ALL times.
- My mom celebrated her 63rd birthday Sunday, we enjoyed a nice lunch with her and lots of deep conversation. I've decided that she is the wisest woman I know, and she made me get re-grounded about what's important in life with just a few simple words. Somehow my husband managed to weasel a pound cake out of my mom on HER birthday... she baked for HIM on HER birthday??? Crazy.
- My grass needs to be cut.
- My kids need haircuts.
- I'm sitting here typing this completely zoned out - and thinking about my friend over and over. I want to be closer so I can just be there for her and her family. They have no one in CA except her husbands father to help them in this type of situation... argh!! I wish I could go-go-gadget and get there.
- I planted flowers 2 weeks ago, and they're not dead yet. Must be superpower flowers, because I'm no green thumb!
- The balloon we bought on July 4 is still just as full of helium as it was the day we got it.
- Just got more info by text... please just pray for my friends well being.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - lots of B's
- My 3yo runs around the house talking about BALLS all the time lately. He's not talking about his boy parts, but with my 10yo being a 10yo - there's alot of "ball" banter lately. And giggles. And it's fine - I have boys, and no matter how bad I like to BELIEVE I'm raising them to be a WEE bit modest, they're going to LAUGH every time they hear the word balls, boys just do that.
- My BAKING sucks monkey toes. I tried this recipe and also tried making an "easy" cobbler with some pantry items that I needed to use.... NEITHER turned out. I was quite BUMMED. My mom, a seasoned baker(ha SEASONED BAKER), says I needed to use more flour (maybe add wheat flour for density) to the first recipe... BLUGH. I hated throwing away those creations.
- Our BACKYARD has become the source of summer fun for our BOYS and I'm so grateful for that simplicity. With the hubs being laid off recently (BOO) it's been a huge change in routine around here, this has been a welcomed daily outlet for us all. Hubs and I get to go outside with the kiddo's and just unwind. It's also been a fun place for our n'bors kids!!
- I've found myself ignoring my BLACKBERRY alot. I don't answer the phone when it rings lately... unless it's family or work. Random rebellion I suppose, or maybe it's this.
- One of my BEST friends just found out she does NOT have cancer!!!! Woohooooo!! Happy Dance!!!
- Summer BREAK is 1/2 way over for my oldest, he's starting to realize this, and every day he asks me another question about his upcoming grade in school. Eager beaver. Wonder how long that'll last??
- That's about all I have for randomness, except maybe that I am watching Will & Grace right now.... re-runs have become my vice. Every night at 11 and 1130 I watch Will & Grace... if I'm working I have it on in the background and yes - it distracts me for that hour.
Visit Keely at The UnMom for more bits of randomness....

Jump Start review & giveaway
When I was contacted with the opportunity to review JumpStart, honestly, I was a little hesitant. We really encourage learning through play for our youngest, but it’s unrealistic for me to say or think that my 3yo has no interest in a computer or video game. Technology, mainly video games, can be consuming, and it’s just not something we use as a form of entertainment for long periods of time. With both parents working from home right now, we do our best to schedule our time(s) on the computer around naps and bedtimes for kids, both kids are aware and know what a computer is!! The little guy (3 years old) also sees his big brother play games on Xbox and often feels like he wants to give it a try. He was a little excited when I told him mommy had a “game” on the computer for him to try.
Our main focus was the area geared toward 3-5 year olds. At first, I noticed a few setbacks with delay on mouse communication with the computer and wondered if it was my laptop, so I installed it on my desktop and it worked fine. So it must be a lag with the mouse pad on a laptop. Otherwise, controlling the game was a breeze. Making the avatar/character was fun for my 3yo and it required little help once I showed him how to point and click. Then, once in Story Land, my 3 year old was excited to hear familiar songs in the Theatre! He also enjoyed planting flowers all through Story Land.
I how the program Incorporated memory games, puzzles, and sorting sizes (big to small) as this goes along with things we’re learning at home with hands on activities through play, so when we were able to access those areas of the game it was 2nd nature and seemed familiar fun for our 3year old! As far as how often we’d use this program, I’d say maybe 1-3 times a week for 15 minutes at a time would be plenty for our little guy. He seems satisfied with the game being a special treat and I like that it goes hand in hand with things he’s learning through play at home and in the community.
There’s a Fun for Parents link that takes you to the Jump Start blog, I was so excited to see fun art project ideas, and experiments to do with the kids. Both of my kids will enjoy these types of activities and I like having a ‘rainy day’ option available to me!! If it’s messy outside we can learn how to get a hardboiled egg in a glass bottle OR we can get ideas for family game night and even learn how to make cuisine critters!! One other thing I noticed is that Jump Start is soon to release Jump Start for the Wii!
A big thanks to Jump Start for my membership and review; it’s been fun for me and the kids to work our way through the entire site of learning and activities - even our soon to be 6th grader enjoyed navigating through the site. The site has vibrant colors, clear speaking voices, easy directions to follow, and offers a wide variety of skills and learning tools. Overall, I’d say it was well received at my house!!
Jump Start has offered a 3 month free membership giveaway to one person who comments on this review. The comment will be picked at random by using a random number generator, so if you’re interested in winning a 3 month subscription go to Jump Start and take a look around then come back here and leave a comment about why you think JumpStart would be fun for your house!
